Scene with 'Doc Robbins' from CSI in Starship

Ok... so they show the scene with Robert Hall (aka Doc Robbins from CSI) in Starship Troopers. They specifically show that he's a double amputee... in the context of the documentary, this makes is seem as though this "effect" is the product of great editing. Am I reading too much into this? Or is it as misleading as I thought?

BTW, I think that besides this scene, the doc is fascinating and incredibly informative... I really have a whole new respect for the position of EDITOR!

They were talking about movies as a propaganda tool and used Starship Troopers to as an example. I think the scene serves as an example of that premis rather than anything to do with FX or editing.
