Greatest/favourite editors?
For me my editing idols are
Walter Murch ~ Shows that you don't have to cut a million times to suck people into a story. A brilliant artist all-round, and an inspiration for anyone wanting to learn this craft.
Michael Kahn ~ Spielberg movies are traditionally beautifully paced, and not a small part of that is due to Kahn's work. Renowned for 'cutting with his gut'.
Thelma Schoonmaker ~ Scorsese wouldn't be an easy director to edit for with his history of encouraging ad-libbing from actors. Helps us to make sense of senseless situations.
Dede Allen ~ Still working at 83. A legend.
George Lucas ~ Let's face it, all the editors working on SW were hired hands doing what he told them. Say what you want about the man, but he understands the power of visuals in a film.
