Similar Films?

I liked this film, because it is the first Filipino indie film I've ever seen. Also, I don't exactly have a basis for comparison. Living in the States, the only Filipino movies I've been exposed to are the ones relatives bring to me--which are sappy romantic comedies that are devoid of any intellectual significance.

Does any one know of any important Filipino films that are have artistic and scholarly values--and can be accessible in America?

(One Filipino film I really want to see is "Manila In The Claws of Darkness," which was nominated--or maybe won (?)--for something in Cannes, but I can't find it anywhere!)

yep, that's a lino brocka film i believe

Flipside - I haven't seen this but it's the first Filipino American film to be accepted into sundance.

The Debut - It's a good film with a lot of heart.

Better Luck Tomorrow - The lead character, not the actor, is Filipino.

Yellow - I think a supporting character is played by a Filipino American actor.

Charlotte Sometimes - No Filipinos, but a push forward for Asian American Cinema.

And any movie with Lou Diamond Phillips. He's half Filipino.

reply <--- There, you can find stuff from Brocka, Bernal, etc. They're region 3 DVDs, I think, so just get a multi-code player.
