Question about the film (spoilers)

I enjoyed this movie.

Like others said, I thought it was funny when the cheerleader Erica (Nichole Hiltz) suddenly turned into Buffy the Vampire Slayer and jumped onto the roof and did all those backflips. I guess they were cheerleader moves, hehe.

I also wondered why all the zombies were slow moving, EXCEPT Esmerelda (Danielle Burgio) who was a sort of super zombie. But I thought that maybe this was because she had just been killed. Obviously fresh zombies are super-fast and super-strong, but they get weak the older they are.

Everyone thinks the way Erica and her boyfriend died was funny, but I missed it.

A few other things seemed strange. When Joss (Travis Wester) was fighting Esmerelda, he kept shooting her with the shotgun. It didn't do much good. So he kicked shut the cell door. Do those cell doors have a catch? I thought you just had to close them and then lock them? Why couldn't Esmerelda push open the door? After all she'd got out before? I guess she was stupid, like all zombies are.

But it seemed so ironic, that Joss has rushed all the way to the sheriff's office to get more ammo, risking his life by running past all the zombies, just to get a gun, when clearly guns didn't seem to do much good anyway. It all seemed a waste of time.

I also found it funny when Joss and his friend kept tossing the car keys back and forth to each other. I think there must have been about 20 times in the movie that someone talked about having the car keys.

Anyway, here's my question. When Alicia (Marisa Ramirez) and Joss first crashed their car, there were a whole load of people who were arrying the coffin, who simply RAN AWAY and disappeared. You never saw them again until the scene in the church. There were 2 with the sherriff when they came to collect Esmerelda, and then you saw all of them again in the church. They seemed to have overpowered Joss but he waved a gun, and once again they all ran out scared. (I was thinking why didn't they just overpower Joss at the start, or when they were running out of the church, but then that would have made for a shorter movie).

So what happened to them? Were they townsfolk? Did they live there? (There was a scene right at the end when the car drove out of town and there were people going back to the cemetary, but they were zombies, right?)

Given that the sherriff performed this ceremony each year to stop the zombies from coming, and hence save the townsfolk, I was thinking it might have been easier for all the townsfolk to leave town and go live elsewhere. And anyway, whereever they ran off to (their homes I guess), the zombies all went for the hotel and left them alone.

Did I miss something?
