I thought it strange that they arrived on same train with the same non-English language in such similar circumstances but had not talked or apparently even seen each other before.

According to the cast list for this movie on the imdb website, the actress is named Charlotta Mohlin.

There is one brief scene late in the movie when farmers are shown harvesting their crops in which she reappears. The camera lingers on her a bit as she is shown hard at work. I took that to mean she somehow found work/found a husband/found someone to take her in.
