'Sweet Land' screening at inaugural Headwaters Film Festival

"Sweet Land" will be screened July 20 as part of Bemidji State University's inaugural Headwaters Film Festival, which will run July 19-21 on campus. More than a half-dozen Minnesota filmmakers will be showcasing their work during the festival, including Bemidji literary icon Will Weaver. Weaver will introduce "Sweet Land," based on his short story "A Gravestone Made of Wheat," and do a 30-minute Q&A on the film afterward. Director Ali Selim will join via Skype.

I have only recently discovered the movie Sweet Land and have absolutely fallen in love with it. I bought the DVD and I've been watching selected favorite scenes from it almost every night for the last month or so! I totally would love to see a big screen showing of it, as well as hearing some discussion from the creators. But from my home of Evansville, Indiana it would be a bit far to travel for a movie which - wonderful as it is - I have already seen. (In the words of Franzen, "That's too heavy for travelin'! ") I greatly envy those who will get to be there.
