Poker Inaccuracy (spoiler)

In the hand between the German and Jack Faro, the board is:

6d8d2d2s9d

And Jack exposes the KdQd for a K high flush.

Phil Gordon remarks it's a very strong hand (which it is), but also that the German has 1 out and only one way to win the pot PRIOR to him exposing either card , this is wrong, the German would win with:

22 (this would make quads)
66, 88, 99, 62, 82, 92 (any of those hands give him the full house)
5d7d, 7dTd (both of which would give him the straight flush and is the best possible hand)
Ad which gives him the nut flush.

I know I'm reading too deeply into this, but how do those words come out of Phil Gordon's mouth knowing how much poker he's seen???

It is possible that since everyone else has folded and it is a tv tournament that the announcers have seen all the folded hands and that the other outs you mentioned above were already folded or aportion therof. Or it coiuld be bad editing. Or it could be one of those mistakes that the creators don't give a crap about because only a select few people will even catch it. Also remeber that because it is a tv tournament the announcers know what the german's hand is thus they would know his outs. I can't remember the hand that the german had but it is a movie after all.

This is not a final tv table, and unlike the actual final TV table where we see ALL the hole cards, we see none here. I also just clicked this on, and the tables they are playing on are normal felt-tops, there are no imbedded cameras to be found. Phil Gordon simply screwed this up, but at the end of the day, this is just a movie you are right :)

People do make mistakes, even narrators of poker games... actually I've heard a few (and made a few myself while playing -- damn jack high straight flush). Maybe it was intentional.

It bothered me for about 8.7 seconds.

Then it was forgotten, when Phil Gordon SWORE. That was priceless.

No thats a great point, I didnt really see the board, but its good you noticed it. I think the main thing was, he only said that, to sort of "Boost" the odds of The German not having the Ace of Dianomds and then when he does actually have it the only way would be by cheating. I think its just a point in the script to put emphasis on the Ace and people will just pay attention to see if he has it.

It's possible too that Gordon's lines were overdubbed and the filmed card sequence was modified to make it easier for people at home to get what was going on. I've heard that the commentary done by Mike Sexton and Vince Van Patten on the WPT is overdubbed after filming and the times we see them during the actual game being played are just them moving their mouths or talking about whatever, as they aren't allowed to see the hands while the tournament is in progress.

Granted, this is a movie and that's an actual casino, but things are filmed out of sequence all the time, so I'm going to guess that Phil shot his stuff, then they shot the casino sequence, and whoever set-up the flop, turn and river didn't pay attention to the paired board.

I agree also the swearing by Phil was hilarious. Frankly, the only thing that I felt was really inaccurate was the fact that a 10 mill tourney only showed five named pros. LOL

I think this was more due to sloppy scriptwriting/editing. In poker tournies with announcers, they aren't allowed to commentate live due to Nevada gaming laws (I went to the WSOP in 95 and stayed at Binion's while they were holding the final table...learned all this while they showed it on feeds in the casino but weren't showing hole cards/announcers. One of the casino hosts told me about the post-editing they do for broadcasts.)

So, I take it more that it was a scripting mistake based on someone already knowing what would be played post editing.
