Starbucks Stinks!

I used to be a longtime Starbucks patron and no more. Because as of
June 2013 the coffeehouse giant has banned all smoking from their
locations with outdoor seating in North America. Starbucks used to
place ashtrays on outdoor patio tables for many years and as of
last summer they have ceased the practice in an effort to discourage
smokers from lighting up outside of their coffeehouses. I smoke
cigars not cigarettes so this new rule applies to all of the states
in the USA including Canadian locations. I now go to mom 'n pop
coffeehouses where I can still light up outdoors! I know that this
rule has most likely caused other loyal patrons to no longer
patronize Starbucks and their reasoning behind this rule is to
encourage a "outdoor atmosphere" for their customers who like to
sit outside though I certainly do not agree! Because smokers like
myself have rights too! So forget Starbucks as I will drink my
coffee and smoke elsewhere!

The problem is most Starbucks customers (me included) don't want to enter and leave through a cloud of smoke.

If your smoke was contained so that it doesn't encroach upon others, knock yourself out. But, generally, that's not the case.

Perhaps the larger, maybe free-standing Starbucks could have a smoking section outside away from the entrance/exit. But most Starbucks aren't large enough for that.

I personally think both cigarettes and cigars smell awful. But if you want to smoke either (or both), as long as you're not encroaching on my right to enter a Starbucks, buy an overpriced (insert whatever you like the barista to whip up_), and leave without encountering billowing smoke or the stench of cigarettes or cigars.

Likewise, if I found myself subject to cigarette and/or cigar stench at a mom and pop coffee house, I wouldn't return - and possibly wouldn't go in in the first place.

California's the wrong place for smokers, that's for sure.

I don't go to Starbucks. America runs on Dunkin! Actually I make my own. But public smoking has been banned forever in the Northeastern US where I live. I don't smoke anymore but I really didn't blame people for not wanting to inhale other people's smoke.
