Anyone else notice something similar?

Between the plot of this movie and the german movie Balls (Männer wie wir) ?

- Both about soccer (or football depending on where you are from)
- The main character comes out and then gets kicked off the team by homophobic team mates.
- Goes to find an all gay soccer team and succeeds...

hmm...

Of course this movie isn't out in Australia yet (its only about to be featured in the Brisbane Queer Film Festival) but from what I read this is similar to Balls, which is one of the best Queer genred movies I've ever seen. I recommend it to all :D

anywho, comments?

yeah, you're right. i've seen both and there are some similarities, but BALLS is much more a goofy, harmless comedy.
11 MEN OUT wants to be a drama too and totally fails in my opinion.

there sure is some striking similarities but with a quite different take on the story. Plus german and icelandic humor is quite different. Both movies are great though!

YES!!! The entire time that I was watching this movie, I was simply thinking "Where is Ecki?" (from Balls). While both are from different genres (Balls being a comedy and 11 Men Out being a drama), the storylines are remarkably similar. I loved Balls, but thought this movie to be lacking in so many respects. Don't get me wrong, the cast on this movie is more attractive, but that alone cannot carry the movie. The movie was dry at times, and all to often I found myself getting bored. The storyline had to many holes and holds. There were too many little issues, and the ending, where it all comes together was lacking. For all of the press that it received, it may not have been worth it. IMHO, Balls was better!

Yes, I noticed a similarity almost immediately except for one HUGE difference. "Balls" was actually funny and watchable. This film just sucked so badly -- on every level. No character development, unlikeable characters and a distinct lack of humor. "Eleven Men Out" is a story that goes absolutely nowhere and then just ends abruptly. I should have been happy when the credits began to roll but I wasn't.
