Solen Honor (2004)

Anyone know anything about this movie? Looks like the dems are trying to burry it. I'd like to see it but it wont be airing in my city.

how are they trying to bury it? sounds more the republicans pretty much own the media with the sinclair group. if ya wanna talk about burying, how about disney trying to can moore's film to keep on the republican's good side? how about the irony that sinclair refused to broadcast names of the diseased in iraq to "avoid making a political statement"?

reply

republicans do not own the media.

thats the dumbest most unimformed thing i have ever heard anyone day on a message board (including the time someone called gili the best film of the year... no its worse than that). anyone with a set of eyes and ears knows that the entertainment industry is 75% liberal. sinclair may have most of the affiliate stations but they have no control over the film industry, music industry, cable news, tv show comentators comentators on the today show, the view, regis philben, good day live, hell even snl and robert smiegel take their unfare share of shots and opinion boistering. if you were on the other side of the argument you would notice all of the liberal bush bashing on every station but fox news. i will be the first to admit that fox is the most biast of them all, but its 1 vs. 100 so they have their work cut out for them. it would be nice if all of the news could be unbiased but hell even mother theresa had an agenda.

reply

KubricksSon is right. The media is generally liberal, save the Fox network. Whoever told you that the media is republican is plain wrong. Check your facts, dude, before posting such a stupid comment.

reply

KS, you're the one who's uninformed.

CBS (Viacom) and CNN (Time Warner), sure, call them liberal. That's two, as in "a broken clock is right twice a day".

NBC owner General Electric (maker of light bulbs & military equipment, major Bush donor) is not liberal.

ABC owner Disney (home base of Rush Limbaugh & the 700 Club) is not liberal.

FOX owner News Corp ... yeah right.

Clear Channel (owner of a gazillion radio stations, plus 37 TV stations) is conservative (donates 3 to 1 Rep vs Dem).

Tribune Publishing (owner of a gazillion newspapers, plus 26 TV stations) is entirely conservative (donates 30 to 1 Rep vs Dem).

Who owns the media? Mostly Republicans.

reply

Disney isn't liberal??? You're joking, right???

I'm a past holder of Disney stock and every year the Board of Directors was a who's who of liberals. Ever hear of Senator George Mitchell, former Senate Majority Leader for the Democratic Party?? He is the Chairman of Disney's Board of Directors.

Or how about Monica Lozano, La Opinion's (a large proudly liberal Spanish speaking paper) Publisher?

Robert Iger gave $4,000 to Congressman Ed Markey (D) (who will run for Kerry's Senate spot if he wins).

Also, I worked with a number of people that were with CNN at the beginning, and had worked with CBS, and ABC. They were all very proud liberals, personal friends of the Kennedy's and never denied the numbers that have shown that over 75% of employees for the big three (ABC, CBS and NBC) are registered Democrats. They were actually proud of that.

Right now, Fox is after money. If there was a gap in the other direction, they'd be all liberal all the time. Look at the rest of their programing, they're using shock to get certain demographics. That's all.

reply

ok i concede. saying republicans own the media was an uninformed and poor choice of words. my intended sentiment was that upon visiting the sinclair website i saw their affiliate list of NBC, FOX, ABC, CBS, WB and UPN, giving me the impression that i'd be turning on my tv and seeing a heck of a lot of stolen honour. anyway, free speech is free speech, and it looks like bush has already won, so it really is a moot point. cheers.

You can go to the web site www.stolen honor.com and see several clips from the documentary. John Kerry should be ashamed. He was partying with Jane Fonda and Tom Hayden while the POWs were being forced to read his anti-war rhetoric that the North Viet Namese captors used to justify their actions.

reply

The sacrifice these POW's made entitles them to have their story told. I cannot blame them for bringing this up now. After all, John Kerry could be our next President. We deserve to hear all sides concerning his behavior after he returned from Vietnam.

reply

An idea: let's leave Vietnam out of the election. It's a non-issue to the voters, and ultimately, it only ends up costing the President credibility. Plus, unless we're planning on heading back to Southeast Asia in the next four years, Vietnam seems like a pretty moot point.

As for Stolen Honor, I'm interested in seeing it too, but it seems tough to find. At least Netflix doesn't have it, and considering how tight my movie budget is (I'm way underemployed right now-can't even afford cable TV), I'm out of options.

From what I've read, though, it seems like a none-too-thinly-veiled campaign piece and geared toward the "If You Liked Swift Boat Veterans For Truth" set. Not so sure it will change anybody's minds. Seems like a waste of time, money and possible campaign finance headaches for The Sinclaire Network.

um, yeah, I've had the dvd for about 2 weeks now, frank.

"An idea: let's leave Vietnam out of the election."

It was kerry who brought vietnam up. It was the democrats that wanted to focus on something 30 years ago. Not Bush.

"it only ends up costing the President credibility."

No it doesn't. The focus on kerry's vietnam record severly hurt kerry during august. It helped president bush.

reply

"It was kerry who brought vietnam up. It was the democrats that wanted to focus on something 30 years ago. Not Bush."

Considering Kerry's very public war protests--which from what can be gathered, is the point of Stolen Honor--it's quite difficult for anyone, Republican or Democrat to dissassociate Kerry and Vietnam.

"The focus on kerry's vietnam record severly hurt kerry during august. It helped president bush"

True, the unanswered charges of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth did hurt Kerry's numbers back in August, but only in the sense that the Presidential election is a two horse race did Bush benefit. The return fire, so to speak, proved the odious connections between the Bush camp and the Swift Boat group, and further brought Bush's Vietnam service under scrutiny.

In the end, going strictly by government records and multiple eyewitness accounts, Kerry's Vietnam record is known and provable. President Bush, regrettably, does not enjoy such evidence, and invoking Vietnam can only add to the confusion surrounding his service.

But forgetting all this, voters have made up their minds about each candidate's Vietnam service; Stolen Honor will change nothing. Voters are more focused on the issues we'll face in our nation's future that the issues the candidates have faced in their past.

By this account, one would hope, Sinclair forcing Stolen Honor on their affiliates will have the same effect of another network (CBS perhaps?) forcing a story about President Bush's dubious Vietnam record on theirs: Zero.

All I want is an opportunity to spend my own (limited) money on Stolen Honor and decide for myself whether it's a good movie or not.

Whether or not any movie about a candidate's war record can change my vote, is, well, highly debatable.

Run that by the Kerry campaign, wouldja?

This is rediculuous. You're all a bunch of idiots. Have any of you actually been reading what you've been writing. Why do we all have to be walking billboards for the 2 party system, regurgitating the information we hear on TV and pretending that it's an arguement? Why can't there be civilized discourse in this country?

Both parties should be ashamed of themselves.

reply

"your all a bunch of idiots".... ? civilized discourse...
yes that sounds very civilized... thank you.. "punk guy." you know with a name like that i am not surprised to hear the "break the conformity" rhetoric coming out of your response. you and the ten million other people who sound just like yourself are so individual....
i'm so glad you chimmed in with that oh so important reply. you really helped further the discussion. i don;t know how i would ever have gotton through the day without that golden peice of wisdom you put pn display.
your like a five year old who sleepily stumbles into a room of adults and trys to join the conversation.
you have no idea whats going on or how to fix things. you have nothing good to offer so you complain... yeah i beleive thats the definition of punk...
go back to sleep you political imbicile.
