Unrated vs. 'R'??

I recently obtained this movie through a DVD trading site & noticed it has an 'R' rating on the back...the 2-disc special edition as well as the Blu Ray state 'Unrated'...I'm less then halfway through this...am I missing anything essential? The prison shoot out in the beginning looked "cleaner" than it could've been.
