Not in Kansas anymore

Did anyone else never feel like this movie was taking place in Kansas? For me it immediately looked and felt like Canada (where was filmed).

Was it Kansas or Missouri? His driver's license said Kansas City, MO.

I live in the metro area, and have worked downtown and lived in Westport. Also, my wife is from Canada and we go there a lot. To me: Seemed like a really good fake KC and not like most movies set in NYC that take place in Toronto (also visited NY enough to notice when they fail location).

The feel of the place was solid, and details of relative locations accurate enough that we were able to determine where some were supposed to be. E.g. the skate rink is at Crown Center, and the Mayor's XMAS Tree is right there, but it doesn't quite look like that. I was even just pleased they used a sunflower road sign! Lots of folks mess up things like signs in movies but I didn't see anything that was just flat wrong. Only things that indicate they filmed elsewhere.

Details were wrong, but that appears to be as a result of it being not just filmed elsewhere but deliberately making it a fake place. There is no K24 highway (at least not nearby), I forget the name but the sheriff's car is labeled for a fake county, etc.

In answer to the last (though old) question, Kansas City sorta straddles the KS/MO state line. Chris grew up in a small town an hour away in KS, but he lives now in the bigger of the two Kansas City cities, in MO. With his residence there, he has a license there. This is a good example of getting things very right for local color in the movie as well.
