CANCELLED?

UPDATED: Well it turns out that Sony has indefinitely shit-canned He-Man, having pulled it permanently from any release schedule. It’s impossible for anyone to top Dolph Lundgren anyway.

The film’s March 2021 release date has been replaced by Uncharted, starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg, in probably the worst selection of casting in recent times.

PREVIOUSLY: Here’s Goyer talking about this film this week. He says he was working behind the scenes for several weeks on the film and thought the script was really good:

“This one was fun and it made the world more fantastic than I thought it could go. It felt arty and fantastical at the same time… I’m not going to talk too much about it, I know they’re making it still. But I’ll tell you it was… just the story of Greyskull and that sort of thing and there was some really cool stuff in there. I don’t think they’re gonna make that version. I know they’re not going to.

It was like a Lord of The Rings film, it was huge! And there was all kinds of stuff in there, you could have divided up that script into three movies and it would have worked. That’s how big it was. [Actually] It was a more fantastic version of Lord of The Rings, is what I’ll say. It’s a more colorful and fantastical version of Lord of The Rings, but it felt as real as Lord of The Rings. It was very real but very far-out. It was a final return to science fiction fantasy where we’ve only had one: Star Wars.”

a more fantastical colourful fantasy version of LOTR actually sounded pretty cool - probably would've been abit like a mega budget version of 80s sword/sorcery fantasy movies (Krull, Beastmaster, Hawk The Slayer, DragonSlayer, the 2 Conans, Fire & Ice, Highlander, and of course 87 Masters of the Universe and Star Wars OT) and influenced by the 80s surreal ethereal heavy metal album covers, and fantasy sword&sorcery artwork (like the 80s MOTU toon obviously was)

Sounds like it. Honestly we probably dodged a bullet. The kid they got wasn't right for the part no way. I'd like to see a theatrical MOTU in the future, but not like this.

And who could replaced Langella?

I think they got lucky and saved a bomb.

Goyer talked about the script a little bit in an interview with THR. This does sound a bit interesting.

“I legitimately liked the script that we did. What I liked the most about it was that it was mostly about a friendship between He-Man and Battle Cat. The idea was there had always been He-Men and different recipients of the Sword of Power and that Battle Cat had always served at their side. And this was a new He-Man that Battle Cat and many people didn’t think it was worthy of the sword. So it was a story of the character earning the sword, but, more importantly, earning the friendship of Battle Cat, who just thought this guy was a lightweight. I really liked it. I thought it was a fun story. There was a lot of humor in it and it creeps up on you because Battle Cat sort of grudgingly accepts him, and it’s Battle Cat’s acceptance of He-Man that gave this version of the story heart.”

No it's still happening. The Nee brothers talk about it and Kyle Allen here in an interview.

Sounds like Mattel realise Barbie going to be huge hit and kick off toy genre movies so want MoTU to be a big movie like Barbie. not a Netflix stream movie (that sounds like neflix were trying to shortchange)
