This is one of those movies...

...that, in my opinion, was a million times better on the big screen. I remember being drawn-in from the percussion at the very start when the camera hovered over the city and it held my attention for the rest of the film. So upbeat, energetic, loud and fun. The people I saw it with adored it, and so I recommended it to lots of people. But, upon re-watch on DVD, I don't think this film is as grand without all of that. It still has glorious sets, direction and performances, but I found the spark to be gone, and I got a lot of flak from my friends who finally did see this on television. Did anybody feel this way about the film?

I watch it up close on my laptop with the lights out, lol. It's much better like that than on TV. Actually all films are, in my opinion.

I agree OP. I have seen this movie on the big screen and on television and I enjoyed this way more on the big screen. I know exactly what you mean.

I saw this movie 9 times in theaters (no judgements please, haha). I LOVED IT. I was so excited for the DVD to come out and I watched it immediately after I got home from buying it. I still loved it, but I agree that it was much better in theaters. It was much more fun, too, because my best friend and I would wait until everyone left the theater and would dance around to the music during the end credits. Oh, what it was like to be 16 :) The ushers were probably watching us, thinking we were absolutely crazy.
