In my book - they are both excellent films..."

I agree.

"why can't you compare apples and oranges?"

Because no one would be able to come to the conclusion that one is better than the other.

"God damn america!"

Yeah....

Darn America for not choosing an apple or an orange!

Too long to read...but Juno is not nearly as good as this.

I hate ROBOTS...but Ninjas and Octopi are awesome!

I dislike Juno--I thought it was hipster, the greatest insult of all, and that the characters were just repositories for dialogue. The only reason I think that it deserved a nomination over the Great Debaters is because it's independent. I'm hoping one day that the studios will realize that the people who make Juno and Little Miss Sunshine are outperforming them and they'll start funding projects like that. Good work on The Great Debaters getting the Globe nomination, though.

I liked this movie quite a bit but I personally feel that Juno is a better.

I have not seen Juno, but I do think this is a film that needs to be recognized. The cast is just outstanding and I am very disappointed none of them were nominated for any of the big awards.

It didn't get any nominations because it was found to be a dishonest film, the same that happened to MUNICH. The Academy runs from films that prove to be lies.

I swear, SD, I just about die every time you make a post.

Keep up the good work!

What films are 100% honest may I ask? They happened to change an Asian dude into white in movie 21 and they still labelled it as "inspired by true story".

That statement is at best very subjective, and at worst borderline ignorant and very arrogant. Unless you by 'in reality' mean that *most* people go to the theatre with that p.o.v :)

By your logic feel good films, happy endings and the big hollywood production have more of a place in cinema than tragedies and so on. I agree that escapism is a very important part - yet I also think that movies like Requiem for a Dream, Irreversiblé, The Life of David Bale, Se7en etc are equally important because they make us think, especially bearing in mind that the whole storytelljng tradition has its roots in myth and greek tragedy.

Sometimes you just need to get away - sure - put on Pirates...other times you need a film that comes out of the dark and punches you right in the gut and will not let you get away from it even in the following days after leaving the cinema - like for instance Grizzly Man by Werner Herzog.

Yea this movie should have definitely been nominated for something. Great story and in my opinion one of the best films of the year.
