shareKilling him was STUPID. There is not a chance in hell they would have gotten fifty years for kidnapping. If I was the judge I would let them plea bargain their way down to contributing to the delinquency of a minor and then I would have given them some probation time and maybe a hundred hours of community service each then after they served their probation and did their community service I would allow them to have it expunged from their records so that they would not need to list it on a job interview.
Why commit CAPITAL MURDER when you would only be facing PROBATION???
They were really THAT STUPID??
These were not first timers, confused kids caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, they were hardened criminals, all of them. They were not strangers to drug dealing, assault, robbery, weapons, etc. If they got pinched for the kidnapping, they were definitely doing jail.

You're just assuming they'd receive probation for kidnaping, when in reality they would be charged with life, as said by Trueloves lawyer. They could've bargained a deal and gotten a reduced sentence I'm sure, but Johnny was a stubborn, not so intelligent individual who took his chance with murder. Clearly a big mistake as he received life imprisonment anyway.
the movie portrayed it that way yes as movies tend to do, but in real life Jake had no idea Hollywood aka Truelove had anything to do with his brothers murder until after the body was found a couple days later.
He never made any threatening phone call to him.
