Sequels to 2004 Special?

I just watched the frustratingly brief 2004 New Year's Special. It ends (Spoiler!) in an obvious cliff-hanger with Hikaru, Touya, and a new face about to represent Japan against China and Korea in the, I think, Hokuto Cup match. That's three years ago now. Has there been another special? Does the Japanese manga carry the story past this point? If so, will the slowly appearing Shonen Jump (printed) translations run past the end of the 2004 special?

I think so but you should get the manga and not just shonen jump, it explains way more.

The manga does continue past the 2004 special, but not much longer :( It goes on to the end of the Hokuto Cup. I'm really surprised that they haven't finished the anime with the rest of the manga plot. The last bit that they haven't animated would make a perfect movie! That'd be awesome, but I haven't seen any signs of life from that series since the special was released. *sigh*

The producers of the anime felt that portraying Japan's fate in the Hokuto Cup was simply something Japanese viewers did not want to see. The conclusion of the 2004 special ends the story arc on a 'high note'. There are no plans to continue the story.
