OH MY GOD

Why has nobody seen this! It is criminally underrated. Easily the best television series I have ever seen. And it received what, a quick run and a nomination for ONE measley award? Where is all the attention it deserves.

It really is the most original thing I have ever seen. Part surreal black comedy, part violent adult action show, part devastating drama. The writing is superb. The direction of every frame of the series is perfect and looks like a photograph, and the cinematography was stellar.

As for the acting, Daniel Mays, Sarah Smart and Ian Puleston-Davies are unstoppable in their lead parts. They play their roles very well and all should have received BAFTA and Emmy nominations. The supporting cast is also impeccable. Frances Barber as the lonely housewife hanging on by a thread, Kris Marshall as the lovable fool, and Philip Jackson as the depressed and perverted ex-Ventriloquist owner of a seedy motel.

As well as the people who played Van Neck, Ruby Woolf, Valerie Hinchkiss, The Greek, Liam Woolf, Vienna Keen, her father and even minor roles like the Chinese club owner and the lead singer of the band. I have never seen such startlingly brilliant portraits of such startlingly brilliant characters. However the most impressive performance comes from living legend Judy Parfitt as Mercy Woolf, possibly one of the cruelest, most vicious, ruthless and disturbing characters ever. I always found myself looking forward to her small parts of the episodes and her performance for me is easily the Best put to film by a female actress ever. (Yes, even in front of greats like Cotillard in La Mome, Theron in Monster and Watson in Breaking The Waves). She is simply sublime.

I find it very tough to believe that she received no attention from various award shows, not that she needs their approval. But Christ, what a stunning performance. I hope this gets another run and this amazing and criminally underrated series has a chance to shine for what it is: One of the strangest, funniest and most brilliant pieces of work ever to air on television.

Talk about hyperbole. Yes its very good but sounds to me like you haven't seen many TV series.

I do agree that the performances, especially by Sarah Smart and Judy Parfitt, go beyond the boundaries of quality television acting. Defanetly award winning.
