Do Nathan and Dan represent two extremes?

I know that Dan is a satire of Banksy style youth culture, but does anyone else feel that Dan represent the other extreme of someone too overly cynical and critical that he can't be happy,

yer i think you're right. i think jonathan yeah? also realises how ridiculous everyone around him is but he plays on it while dan gets so annoyed by it. dan just cant have fun

The whole point of Dan is that he is one of them who thinks he is better.

He is an absolute failure with no direction. He comes across as smarter than Barley etc but really he is just one of them.

It's hard being Dan,I saw myself in that character. Maybe i'm too cynical but it's hard not to be in this world of idiots.
