Second Series Confirmed By Morris

A friend of my brother actually met Chris Morris a few weeks back. He asked him whether there will be a 2nd series of Nathan Barley and he said there will be. I will ask my brother in more detail what else was said and if they have finished writing.

I know you all probably think this is total bull sh*t, but either way I find out more...

UPDATE:

I spoke to my brother and he said that another friend of his said that there was some acting jobs on facebook which turned out to be auditions for extras in a dance scene in the new series.

I guess we'll have to wait and see

reply

Woo, hopefully that's true.

reply

but TWO years after the first...? I'm not so sure they would do it.

heres to hoping. i wanna know what happened after ashcroft went a bit..well..nuts...

reply

just been looking at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nathan_Barley and it seems to be true.

"Continued rumours of a second series of the comedy,[1] including possible auditions for extras,[2] were given added weight with reports that Chris Morris told students at a talk at Bournemouth University that he was working on new Nathan Barley material.[3][4]

Recently Morris has claimed to the TV times that series two is on the way."

Bum.

reply

There's been longer waits than over two years for a followup season before.

Especially for cult hits like this one!!!!!

I just can't stop LAUGHING at the Greek (?) hairdresser and Elizabeth scene. Has to be one of my favourite episodes of anything, EVER. Never saw it coming =)

reply

do you think julian barrett would return for it? seeing as he is so busy with the boosh and his baby twins?

reply

Yes I think he would, it is quite a big/ high profile role and since he won't have anything to do with the writing/ production/ music side of things it won't be as time consuming as the Boosh. Plus Nathan Barley without Dan Ashcroft?!? No way! :D

reply

yeah that's true, i hadn't thought of it like that before (i sounded like marcia brady just there didn't i?). yeah i would probably not watch nathan barley without dan ashcroft in it.

reply

fingers crossed for julians return...i don't fancy watching it with out him...

reply

Apparently the second series has been part filmed but according to a mate at talkback they've shelved the series with no indication it could be brought back

reply

WHAT??? That is too bad :( I think I might e-mail them and hassle them about it.

reply

Since posting that post I found this http://www.flakmag.com/features/nathanbarley.html

Which indicates that it is still being worked on around other projects, apparently with a new cast apart from the 3 main characters

reply

I am so pleased to hear this news!!! :)

SOmething to look forward to for 2009, I guess! Yey! I don't mind a new cast so long as the main 3 are there!

reply

I know someone who works at talkback and since they are so secretive they will be willing to guff all over our hopes. Apart from when the creators let their tongues slip

reply

They only keep quiet to protect themselves. They don't want to commit to saying something and then having to retract the statement later when they encounter distribution problems. Channel 4 are quite flakey when it comes to shows like this.

reply

From interview with Flak:

Flak: Can you provide even the slightest hint as to what fans might expect to see (in series 2)?

Chris Morris: Nathan's brother, Jason.

I couldn't stop smiling, what a brilliant idea!

reply

I hope Ben, sorry Pingu is back too.

reply

3-4 year production cycle for a series of 6 or so episodes? It better rock my socks off. I'm sure it will though.

reply

I've heard rumours that Nick Burns doesn't want to reprise the role. Has anyone heard this?

Wikipedia had this update with a Nicholas Burns quote [from Octobers 'Loaded' Magazine] - doesn't sound like series 2 is happening...

" Further evidence of another series has been given weight when Flak magazine reported that Chris Morris and Charlie Brooker were working around the scripts amongst other projects.[3] Although in the October issue of Loaded, Nicholas Burns (Nathan Barley) was asked if there would be a second series of the show to which he replied "I don't think so. If we'd done it a year ago, maybe, but now there are too many people in real life like that". He made similar comments in a radio interview with Ian Collins on TalkSPORT in September 2008."

reply

Here's another Nicholas Burns interview (September 2008): it sounds like he would love to do it, but there have been no discussions. Also note that he states that after his West End run he's off to Spain to shoot Benidorm S3 "which takes me through to the middle of next year".

Which means Nathan Barley S2 would be on screens no earlier than 2010, I would think.

Oh I hope so. Been waiting for this.
They can't just end it like that, leave you wondering...

any news?

Any post that starts "a friend of my brother..." or any variation there of is just a long winded way to say, "this is all bullsh!t".
