Why the double standard with musicians who bomb?

Why is it when musicians like Usher and 50 cent have massive bomb films, the media isn't lynching them the way they do others.

the entire world seemed to go on about:
Mariah's Glitter
JLo's Gigli
Britney's Crossroads

these women were torn to shreds. but you don't have the monumental uproar over black male artists as white females.
i'm being legitimate here. is this partially a black/white thing or a male/female thing? why is there such a noticable difference in reaction?
Also, Britney's movie outgrossed both of theirs

well, usher and fitty do get trashed, on the imdb boards, and the bashers are always accused of rascism. so i think you can answer your own question.

reply

well first of all...
Ushers first movie: The faculty was very good
Jlos. Gigli was so bad that my tears was dried
Crossroads sucks
Gliter sucks
In the mix is quite good

reply

i'm not talking about what your opinion are on what "sucks"

why did the mass media: Entertainment news show, actual news show, all sorts of magazines, newspapers, etc.
go on and on about Mariahs, Jlos, and Britney's films, and nothing is mentioned of 50cents or ushers major movie bombs.

reply

Well Mariah's not white so I doubt it's a race issue.

Good point, it's just that (except for Britney), the women's albums were also not doing well. At least Usher and 50 cent, even though the movies didn't do well, are still laughing their way to the bank through their records.

Besides, no one took 50 cent's acting seriously from the get go. The others probably all had the chance to prove themselves but who honestly thought that Mr.Cent would get an Oscar.

Dance?-I am! And I'm Wild And Dancing!!

reply

That does make a lot of sense. I suppose their was a lot more hype and expectation about at least Mariahs and Britney's movies; whereas there was no let down with 50/usher's bombs, because there were no expectations.

and yeah, i forgot the womens records sales were also doing bad as well (Well, Except for Britney's)

You know what, that’s a bloody good question.

Here’s my theory.

Britney, J-Lo, and Mariah were - and are - bigger stars than 50 Cent and Usher.

The bigger they are, the harder they fall.

So if a male singer who was really famous made a bomb, he’d get thrashed.

I’m sure if 8 Mile bombed, then Eminem would have gotten a beating by the media as well.

However, chances are that most people don’t even know that 50 Cent and Usher were in any movies in the first place.

They’re simply not big enough to get kicked.

Wow, I guess being the biggest rap star in the world and having the top-selling album of 2004 doesn't qualify as being a prominent force in the music industry. You just have it all figured out, don't you JasonCav? My advice: A little research wouldn't kill you jag-off!

reply

I did call it a theory you know.

And I still say that neither of them are as well known as Britney, J-Lo, or Mariah.

Dude, I've been all over Africa and Europe, and I don't kmow about 50 Cent, but mention the name Usher, and everyone will know to whom you're referring.

reply

Yes, but the people in Africa think you're referring to the bushman in The Gods Must Be Crazy:

"Yes, but the people in Africa think you're referring to the bushman in The Gods Must Be Crazy"

Wow, that was just completely unfunny and just plain stupid. Uneducated, unwordly ignorami such as yourself are the reason Americans forever have a "Stupid" stamp engraved on their shoulders by foreigners who mock us. I happen to have gone to many countries in Africa myself, and many parts are just as-if not more- industrialized as areas in the U.S. such as New York. So just venture out of that trench you live in and absorb a little culture.

reply

C'mon, it wasn't completely unfunny.

And don't you think Usher looks just a little bit like the bushman? Take another look at the movie's poster.

since when are Mariah and J-Lo white?
