Its not that bad

Honestly if you caompare it to Epic Movie or Meet the Spartons. At least there is a plot to this and I thought their choice of Super Villian was quite good, not just a parady of villans from other super hero movies.

I also thought that it wasn't that bad. I have never seen Disaster Movie, Epic Movie, Date Movie, etc. but I thought that this could've been much worse.

reply

I agree, there weren't endless pop culture references and some of the jokes were actually very funny.

"Have you ever noticed how men always leave the toilet seat up? That's the joke."

reply

Disaster Movie, Epic Movie, Date Movie etc. had a major lack: David Zucker!! it's a seal of quality for comedies and spoofs...
(I've also read on wikipedia that Zucker wanted to call this movie just "Superhero!", in his own style)

reply

I agree, it was enjoyable for what it is.

Just watched it, and it wasn't as bad as I feared it would be. There were some genuinely funny scenes, though most of it was a bit too cheap. The nail gun scene was pretty funny, and the beginning of the Thanksgiving dinner had some really nice details.

"Ah-ah, not until we say grace."
"Jesus!"
*chorus* "Amen."

Sujperhero movie is at least watchable

I thought it was from the Epic Movie and Disaster Movie guys, but then I found out it wasn't and actually watched it. Most of it is hit and miss, but it made me laugh like Scary Movie did. It's ridiculous, but not idiotic.
Probly like 5.5/10

reply

Yeah it's watchable. Not as genious as a ZAZ parody, but much better than "Epic Movie", "Date Movie", "Disaster Movie" and all this new stuff.

reply

It actually is a ZAZ parody. Well... a Z parody. I felt it was en par with the Naked Gun sequels. Not the Naked Gun though, that is very brilliant, though Superhero Movie (in my opinion) is the best modern spoof movie. MODERN spoof movie, as in... post-95.

I find now that whenever I watch Spider-Man, Superhero Movie flashes in my mind (specifically when Spider-Man dodges the Goblin's dart things, and when Dragonfly tries the same against the hourglass and ends up getting hit with all of them as a result). Overall, I feel the reason critics bashed it so much, is due to decisions by the studio, because Craig Mazin and David Zucker originally had a movie almost as good as the classics, and then the studio meddled in their affairs.

I want Zucker to get back to making more Naked Gun or Airplane! style spoofs, like this one. Parodies a main film with small, more subtle and fitting parodies throughout, rather than the Scary Movie style that just shows parodies of any horror movie regardless they make sense together or not. Or even worse, the Seltzer/Freidburg movies which don't even make jokes, they just *show* stuff that happened in other movies or in pop culture. ("Oh, no, not those douchebags from Jersey Shore." Shows cast from Jersey Shore. Hurr hurr.)

Great Superhero Movie line:
(at the funeral)
"We are here today to say goodbye."
(everyone in unison) "Goodbye!"

I avoided this movie the first time around because I absolutely can't stand the Friedberg and Seltzer "comedies" and expected this to be similar. I finally caught this last night on TV and I have to say, some bits had me in tears laughing. Sure it's silly and dumb, but it's also very funny in places and the parodies are actually done well.

The Tom Cruise bit had me cracking up as did the dinner scene, and Keith David's "what Empire City needs is more cops... and a Hooters" line was hilarious.

OMG the guy who played Tom Cruise was great!!!! The voice, the look, everything!!!!

I agree, it could have been much worse, like Epic Movie (God, I hated that one. I mean, the guys who made it seemed to have thought "It doesn't matter whether or not the movie has a storyline, we just need to include as many movies as we can.")

Yes, their choice of Super Villan was really good!

Finally, more ppl. who agree w/ me on this movie. It WAS funny and actually had good acting from the actors, I think the kid in the movie, the main one who becomes Dragonfly, has really good facial expressions for seeing something weird, eg the crazy editor, the line about Hooters, ect. And you can never go wrong w/ Leslie Nelson. This one I feel is much better than the crap their trying to pass of for 'funny' spoof movies nowadays.
