That Trial ... My God

It’s no surprise, especially to Americans, that history is replete with sham trials in kangaroo courts. But ... western Europe? In the 20th Century? That a-hole “prosecutor” is an evil fuck, yes ... but is there no sense from him or any of the spectators that he is making a world-class fool of himself? That nothing right or good is happening, and he is leading it?

“Soon you will be standing where I stand.” That doesn’t sober anyone? No seed of doubt? Maybe at least make someone wonder how this might play in the future when someone else is in charge? Not even for the instinct of self-preservation?

There’s a level of self-delusion here that is frightening, yes. But also hard for me to understand.
