I had to pinch myself so I would not laugh...
If you enjoy movies that are unintentionally bad or you are Aaron Carter's other fan, then "Popstar" may be for you. My niece made me watch this movie. I went into it with no expectations but I must say it had more unintentional laughs then I expected. You will enjoy the fifteen second montage of Aaron studying his calculus book assiduously. It includes shots of him turning the pages of his book, punching the buttons of his calculator, and most of all looking genuinely puzzled.(Carter's finest acting moment in the film) After all this he goes from barely being able to put 2+2 together to solving complex calculus equations. The director Richard Gabai loves a montage. Others include the homely girl learning to drive a Porsche, the homely girl going to get a makeover, and Carter taking his calculus final... again! It turns out he has something the movie's writers call testophobia. Guess what that is? The movie does take the oppurtunity to throw some former teen idols in the mix including David Cassidy, and the heroin-addled Leif Garrett. Garrett's cliched role as a school janitor with phillosophical tidbits that sound like something out of a fortune cookie is actually one of the movie's highlights. I didn't think it was possible but he is worse than Carter. This makes for great unintentional laughs for others forced to endure this steaming pile teen culture dung. So enjoy!
