Fantastic!!!!

A superb television series. I am extremely saddened that it was only in three parts. Anyone else going to miss this?

Yes, definately. I know its adapted from a book, but maybe they could do a second series anyway. I would like to find out what happened to Miriam and see more of Ben and Cecily's relationship. Or maybe they could focus more on Paul Trotter, who has already been mentioned as a good character and actor, and his group of friends growing up in the 80s?

Hi,

You will be pleased to know that Jonathon Coe wrote a sequel to The Rotters' Club and the BBC is probably going to film it so you will be able to find out what happened to Ben and Cicely.

I have ordered the sequel book from Amazon but have not yet read it. My guess is that Ben is doomed to be disappointed in his love for Cicely! We will have to wait and see.

I was at a similar school and was 18 years old in 1970. The girls' school was half a mile along the road and we "six formers" wore a groove in the pavement walking to the girls' school every lunch time. I seem to remember quite a few Cicely like girls, one of whom at least broke my heart, she was called Denise. It is good to be older and wiser though.

I think the author has captured exactly the atmosphere of that type of English school and the teenage male angst of the late 1960s/1970s.

Look on www.bbc.co.uk and do a site search for rotters club to find out lots more.

Bon chance.

The sequel is called 'The Closed Circle'. I haven't read it (it was published very recently) but as I understand it, it picks up the story in the '90s.

I will miss it, and I hope that there is indeed a sequel.

I am 44 and hence was a similar age to the characters in the series, and it really did bring back memories of the larger incidents going on in the background of the main storylines like the Birmingham bombings, strikes, the drought in '76 etc.

Real nostalgia!!

I have since read the Closed Circle and it certainly concludes the story. I found it less satisfying than The Rotters Club but I am sure that you will enjoy it.

The "twist" in the story was not obvious to me until at least 90% of the way through [maybe I am not very perceptive?].

I hope the BBC do make the sequel but due to its nature I think that they will have to abridge it savagely.

Good reading.

It was rather enjoyable, shame its never been repeated.

It's a great mini series. Really sticks with you. Great that the Beeb made it. I did watch when it was first broadcast - an then got it on torrent(it was before the DVD was out!). Even though, I'm too young to have known the 1970s - the whole school experience(even though I didn't go to a grammar school) is quite familiar to me - being popular, etc. The politics and so on make interesting.
