Missed the first five minutes. Can someone help me? [spoilers]

I came in as Viviane's brothers are pressuring her to make peace with Eliayu, so I'm assuming that the film opened with Viviane threatening to leave him.

My problem is that Elyahu's character development feels uneven, i.e., he doesn't become a real *beep* until AFTER Viviane's giant tantrum / flip-out / breakdown. Or put another way, her breakdown seems disproportionate to Eliyahu's faults as we know him up to that point.

Is the problem that he's religious and wants the rest of them to fall in line? If so, is this recent (he just "found religion"), or has this been a long, stewing conflict?

They did engage in a long dialog about whether or not to accept an invitation to visit friends for the weekend, but I don't know French and was scrambling to keep up with the Hebrew subtitles.

So I see a stressed, disorganized, volatile, working mother of four with a full-time live-in babysitter (her MIL) whose husband doesn't bring her flowers. One way or the other, I feel like I missed something. Can someone fill me in?

When you think of garbage, think of Hakim!

You missed an intense close-up of her face as her brothers completely surround her and keep urging her to stay with the husband in this loveless marriage to a rigid guy because their late father liked him and they think he meets the criteria for a good husband.
