A Hidden Gem....

There is a saying, "Never judge a book by it's cover," and I went against that and rented this film purely on the cover. Hey, Emma De Caunes is a Goddess and you also have the gorgeous Cosmo Shiva Hagen. And with a colorful cast of characters including John Hurt, Rade Serbedzija, and the one and only Vanessa Redgrave you know it has to be good. This movie has a certain feel to it that words simply cannot describe. I finished watching it and felt....illuminated!

By chance, I saw the film on TV when I was a kid, and then years later it came back to me and I just had to watch it again. I was surprised to find out that the movie is actually great. Its quirky, but not forced, the acting is spectacular, but not flashy. It has a loose feel to it, but yet it still manages to tackle life's more serious questions.

Not many films manage to pull it off like Short Order does, which is why I rank it as one of my favorite films. A hidden gem indeed.
