Live Action Movie

Anyone know anything about the live action G.I. Joe movie that's supposed to be coming out? Can't find anything on here...

I know a script has been written and turned in. It is heavily based on the Sigma Six concept though. It seems that us long time fans of the 80s have been left in the dirt.

The film should be based on the current run of G.I.JOE: AMERICA'S ELITE comics series from Devil's Due/Image comics which picked up after the Marvel comics version which was the best version ever. Larry Hama and what he established should be the bible the live action film is based on.
The cartoons were good, entertaining fluff, but they always messed with continuity and our heads(cartwheels on the tarmac during laser blasts? parachutes after every Rattler is shot out of the sky? Duke romancing Scarlett?
Sigma 6 has great animation, but lacks everything else that's great in the comics. Everything in Sigma 6 is Big. WAY BIG!!! Had they kept with the comics canon it would fare much better, but lose it's younger audience. It is a military/adventure/drama anyway.

I agree. This movie should be dark, gritty and violent. GIJOE isn't as popular now as when we were kids so I would assume the target audiance would still be us (25-40?).

Since we are all grown up now, I wanna see Rattlers blow up with the Pilots. I want to see Snake Eyes get some Scarlet and Destro some Baroness. I want to see a ninja sword make contact WITH someone and a bullet (not a laser) actually bare some significance in a battle. I want to see Quick Kick put on some shoes and Roadblock to lose the rhymes.

I'm not saying WHO I want to see die, because I don't know, but I don't think a battle should end with the same number of people that it started with.

As far as a story line itself is concerned, I agree, just stay true to original stuff Hama wrote. Change it up a bit, add a little more graphic texture, but don't stray too far.

Quickkick isn't in the current comic run from Devils Due. They are trying to keep it more reality-based...yet they still have the Arashikage ninjas and Snake Eyes. Baroness has a missing baby and is super pissed. Flint is much darker following the death of his wife Lady Jaye. Etc...

Life's too short to be anal retentive!

I have to admit I haven't read the comics in a long time. I actually remember QuickKick blowing up in a tank in the original comic run. I was just stressing my fan-fueled fantasy to see something more realistic than the old cartoon (as much as I love that too). I always thought of the comics as the "Movie Version" if ever there was one.

Sounds like the current run of comics is something I should start reading.

BTW I'd cast Kate Walsh from GREY'S ANATOMY as Scarlett in a heartbeat. Not a huge name, but she fits the role perfectly.

Knowing the terrible casting Hollywood is known for, they'd probably put Jennifer Garner, Hillary Swank or (God forbid) Julianne Moore in the role and set it in modern day. The major Larry Hama stories took place in the 80's and 90's. Devil's Due's current run of G.I. Joe books take place in modern day, but our beloved heroes have aged and started families. Lonzo aka Stalker has a wife a couple kids, Zartan has a teenage daughter, Baroness had a kid with Destro(or Flint) and Flint recently lost hs wife Allison/Lady Jaye to another threat to U.S. and G.I. Joe interests...the Red Shadows. Snake Eyes and Scarlett are engaged again.

Thats coz Quick Kick got killed off in the marvel run

Yeah that "Battle of the serpent stone" piece of rubbish. They need REAL joe fans to write and direct it.

all ihave heard about the movie is that its not called Gi Joe but will have Duke and the others. they said the name change would be for other countries. Look on IGN a wile back. man i hope barrel roll is in this.

reply

Yep and I heard that Action man was going to be part of the group. Then I heard they got Ray Park in the movie I was way cool. one of the Wayans brothers (if I sp that sorry) is going to play Ripcord. I think the same director who did VanHelsing is direction this. He wants to cut off all the Fansboys form this movie. and If I can remember Hasbro sent out word on their website saying for us not to worry the Joe Movie is going to be like the same form the commics and the Cartoon. (I doubt it now with what this guy did to the part of Ripcord) If they are going to go do the whole Golbal thing and having the pit in Brussle, Belgium then I am not seeing the movie nor am I ever going to get another hasbro GI Joe Toy again. I have a bad felling they are going to make Snake eyes talk in this movie.

Saw the trailer a while back, it looks okay, but doesn't quite feel like G I JOE to me.
