Wouldn't be so bad...

If it wasn't just so utterly implausible. In terms of "Iraq movies" it's actually reasonably decent in terms of costuming. And its tactical scenarios are actually at least somewhat more realistic than most of the "mainstream" movies that have touched on this subject. Well, except that absurd knife fight at the end. Rather amusing that an essentially low budget film that I had never even heard of before it popped up on cable tonight does a better job than Hollywood. Characters were simple and a bit formulaic, but not insulting stereotypical sketches.

But this movie just had no focus and didn't know when to end. I mean really, give us some drama here. If they're gonna be stuck fighting all day, make it tense and captivating. These guys just kind of go from one gunfight to another, running the gamut of every possible scenario, and more than a few impossible, or at least implausible ones.

Somebody should have taken this script, torn about the last half of it out, handed back the first and said "Take this part and make it as long as the original." Then at least the end result might have been a decent film. I don't think this ever had the meat to be a good movie, but it might have at least been a war film you could shrug and at least enjoy.

I guess the positive review I can give is: "I've seen much worse."

I saw it on cable tonight as well, and I more or less agree with you. There were some decent parts, but the scene at the prison should not have been included, and the knife fight at the end was just absurd. It ruined the whole movie, what there was of it. I wrote a review, and said it would have been more plausible to pretend to run out of ammo, and have someone like the sarge hiding out and mow down the insurgents. Yours was one of the best and most honest reviews I read.
