WTF are people complaining about?

I just watched this last weekend and it was a great film. I hear people saying the acting was terrible, they spoke and acted like real soldiers, not like they were reading from a script. I want characters to sound real, real people don't have cool one liners ever fifteen minutes or give deeply moving, powerful, speeches right before marching out into battle. The film looked at real events, from a real perspective. It wasn't suppose to be Black Hawk Down or We Were Soldiers, this wasn't about one harrowing experience during a major conflict. This was an ordinary day in the lives a group of 1st cav soldiers. Half the comments on every film involving the military on these boards saying how crappy or unrealistic something is are written by people that don't even know anyone in the military let alone who have served themselves.

I liked this movie

As a former soldier. I found the movie interesting. But totally implausable. Any unit might find itself in a day long battle. But no unit has ever stumbled and fumbled it's way through a DOZEN! ambushes losing only half it's number of personnel and then Liberating the very people that have been attacking and killing them all day long! This movie has little in it that shows anything about what the army is like in a war. Despite those flaws I was entertained for a little while.

Yeah, it was OK, nothing like HBO's series on the Iraq war, Generation Kill. Now that series ROCKED!

I knew the movie was in trouble in the opening scenes where the humvee they are riding around in had no armor on it or even a roof. I finally stopped the movie after it took about 3 rpg hits to "disable" it.

Well... I was a soldier in Iraq and I thought this thing was a total turd. Unrealistic, poorly acted... I was glad I caught this thing on cable.

I have to agree with about everything you said. Though my past military service did not involve combat, my experience with military commands and the resulting injuries from combat do give me some authority besides just having been a viewer of many combat and battle films. As a retired physician, I thought the injury and treatment of those injuries was very well done.

I don't think this film was meant in any way to portray a factual day in this platoon's efforts. Instead I believe the writer's intent was to show many of the different possibilities and what is faced by our troops and the many different situations they find themselves in.

I did not find the acting all that bad as others have said. If any criticism is due there, I would say that putting a film in the can that could be viewed likely caused more noderation of actions and language than in the real battle situation.

I'm going to rent up this movie from blockbusters if they have it, because of that post.

Yeah, if you want a really bad military movie, watch anything with Lorenzo Lamas playing a soldier.

Seriously, good? Interesting? WHA WHA WHA WHA WHA. This movie was awful, and their is much to complain about. The acting was terrible, and that knife fight. HAHAHAHAHA. No way. I was high when i watched it so it had its comedic moments but i don't think that was the intention of the filmmaker. Another thing. The exteriors were horrible. At one point they were in what looked like a southern California rock quary. When dealing with such a serious issue it seems like it should be realistic as possible. American soldiers missed the mark big time. NOOO NOOO NOOOOO SARGE hahahahahahhahahahahhahahahaha. I could write like that all day. What a crap script.

By saying you enjoyed this or even liked it, you are exposing yourself as a tasteless philistine. Listen to the two former soldiers in this post--they both found it implausible and stupid. One even referred to it as a "turd." No, this isn't supposed to be Blackhawk Down or We Were Soldiers, let alone Platoon, it isn't supposed to be anything--it's a base, shallow, mindless action movie set in Iraq.

"I'm a medic, I'm not cut out for this s--t, I can't take it!" --utterly laughable. Total filth and rubbish. Anyone who says otherwise just isn't paying attention.

I'm still watchin this film but come on I could see it was gonna be unrealistic from the opening scene...the acting was terrible and such...but I can see past that cuz the film looks pretty decent for a low budget project. They could've developed a better story tho.

I've watched this movie twice now, once last year when I was instructing recruits and just now. The first time I thought it was good entertainment value but the acting was kinda ok. I don't expect much from war movies and good ones are hard to come by. The second time I watched it more in depth and realized that the scenery was very much like Toronto, Canada and upon further research found out it was filmed 1/2 hour outside of the city. Some things that gave it away were 1) the one way sign in the alley 2) some of the english graffiti, 3) green walls along the highway etc. I've been to the Middle East and the architecture there is very different from what can be seen in the movie. However, I don't think the director / writer intended for it to be about what you see on the screen. The purpose was more to show what goes on in the hearts and minds of these soldiers. But if they're going to film war movies in Canada and use Canadian actors, maybe they should do our Canadian military justice and create movies about them.
