Who is the old man who owns the underground bookstore? Why do we never get to see his face? Why does he help Yomiko and Nancy by giving them a place to live? Also, is Nancy suppose to be a little slow in the TV series? She seems like a normal person in the original OVA.

The Nancy in R.O.D the TV is the younger clone, who suffered (aparently non-permament) mental damage from 1) from being pushed under water by her older 'sister' in the OVA (remember that she is in a sanatorium at the end of OVA) 2) Joker taking away her son and telling her he died.
