VERY Dissapointing :-(

I loved the Read or Die OVA, but the ROD the TV sequel series is nothing compared to it. It is boring, and the infrequent fight scenes are also boring. As a series, it isn't that bad, but compared to the OVA, it is extremely disappointing.

Anyone agree?

They're completely different beasts - with very different objectives. The TV was a surprise to me too, the first episode implied it was all going to be action packed just like the OVA but then it seems to slow right down and concentrate on their day to day lives in Japan. Its a different (and I think very beautiful) kind of story telling, but yeah the OVA just seemed "stronger" somehow. I expect the budget was bigger for each OVA ep than for any of the TV eps.

the OVA is excellent dont get me wrong, but I prefer the TV series because there's more character development and focus on storyline

R.O.D the tv...nuff said

reply

Yeah, the character development and interaction is what won me over in the first place. Well, Maggie in particular. Such a great character.

reply

Totally agreed. Maggie and the Nenene-Anita interaction. Also the always only implicit Michelle-Junior love relationship.

Also a much more interesting choice of adversaries: not James Bond-style 'villains', but two superpowers who think thery are working for the good of humankind while trying to gain power -- through controlling books and knowledge.

I think R.O.D the TV is also different in being for an older age group.

reply

I personally think R.O.D. The TV was head over heels better than the original. I thought the first one had great animation and fight scenes, but the story was very lacking and it had little to no character development. The TV series really created a mood and you actually cared for the characters. I like Agent Paper better with a British accent than an American one( It suits her better).
