Nenene Sumi Regawa is a lesbian?

Do you think she is?

It's a good assumption to say she is, but then again, there is a ridiculous amount of fan service in this show, so you can't be sure.

i hope shes not.

According to Nenene herself: "Sorry to disappoint you, but I don't swing that way." She says this matter-of-factly, rather than hotly denying it, the latter of which generally is more likely to indicate denial/lying.

On the other hand, young Nenene (in the manga) likes to tease Yomiko in a manner one might take as a form of flirtation (e.g., forces her to dress up in silly, sexy outfits). Nenene of the TV series likes to flirt-tease Maggie, who seems to have a little bit of a thing for Nenene. Whether this is because Nenene is simply mischievous-with-a-slight-sadistic-streak (enjoying embarrassing her loving and obsessed fans) or because she swings at least somewhat towards being attracted to the same sex is left up to the viewer.

However you interpret it, there's little evidence she's actively sexual with anyone, male or female, or has been, except perhaps briefly. The true love of her life is writing.

In my personal opinion, I don't think she's in love with Yomiko (which is where most of the speculation is), but had a crush on her when she was younger (a hero-worship sort of thing. I think she does truly love Yomiko, absolutely--but platonically. Yomiko would probably drive her nuts if they attempted a relationship, and she knows that.

Of course part of this personal opinion is probably fed by the fact that I do have a rampant Maggie-Nenene fantasy. (I think Maggie suits Nenene much better, and Maggie's such a sweetheart she deserves to have her crush reciprocated.) But that's not so much that I think for certain that Nenene's a lesbian, but that I'd like her to "swing that way" enough for that scenario to work. ;)

Despite that, it's kind of nice they've not overburdened the series with romances of any nature (and left whatever fan-fantasies there might be in that very realm of fantasy). There's more than enough series where everyone gets paired off; ROD the TV deeply explores the themes of friendship and family and that's not something we get enough of.

I agree

I assumed Nenene was bisexaul, mostly because of the fanservice. Though alot of the apperntly lesbian behaviour between Nenene and the other girls is probably just Nenene tormenting them. I haven't read the manga, but like the above poster said, its probably just her having a little sadistic fun. Everyone does it in some form or another.

Also about the Nenene/Maggie thing, I think Nenene only threatened to kiss her because Nenene was being a lazy bitch. Everyone is a lazy bitch at some point in the day.

i haven't read the manga wither but i've assumed that nene was bisexual, though so far i've never seen her openly pusue anyone, so i'm more inclined to think that she's more bi-curious than bisexual

I think Nenene is a total lesbo who probably flicked her bean while thinking of Yomiko all the time while she was missing.

A lot of anime is gay as hell, like JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, chalk it up to the fact that Japan is a more conservative, buttoned down culture than the west and the fantasy world of anime/manga allows them to let their freak flag fly.
