Has it been shown in the UK yet?

You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity - Snatch

I read an article last night saying it had.

but according to the article it was shown on the "fox channels".
but the UK Fx channel has miniscule viewing figures.
I can't see why BBC haven't bought it.

this is plainly the best show I've seen in years.
better than the Office, no question.

and I think it would go down amazingly well with a UK audience.

sadly it seems that instead we'll have to watch it through illegal means.
hopefully at some point there'll be a region 2 dvd release (please)

Apparently in England they're calling it "The Nominees". That, and the fact a lot of them don't know much about Australia, will probably perpetuate the myth that it's a genuine documentary! Tee hee. I wonder what the reaction will be.

reply

no i think alot of english people would thing that it would be an actual documentary.
I remember when this show was shown on the abc, it had alot of people writing up and complaining to the news paper saying the Ja'mie was a selfish girl and doesn't deserve the australian of the year title and also dissing the other nominee's aswell, by saying they didn't deserve it.

so if some australians couldn't realise it was a comedy and not a real documentary well the english aint ganna have a chance.

reply

well, my mum didn't work out that Chris Lilley played all the characters.

but, i still can't imagine anyone watching it here.
not because it isn't massively good, but just because FX doesnt get any publicity.

man...why did the BBC pass on it?

reply

Yes I heard some Australians got confused also! Unless there's publicity saying what it is beforehand, you're right there'll be no chance for England. Was that their plan, I wonder?

reply

hey what's with the pom-bashing?!

i'm english and i randomly found this programme just after it had been on in oz. it is one of the best series i have ever seen and wehn i watch it now it still makes me laugh. i had no no idea what the programme was before i watched it and knew straightaway that it wasn't real. i'm sure some english people would get confused but why would we be more confused than you guys?

well i still have hope for it here anyway. when the office was first shown here i loved it and noone knew what it was. then suddenly it took off in a huge way, a long time after it was originally broadcast. i've certainly been getting all of my friends to watch WCBH and they have all loved it. fingers crossed for the rest of the country....

reply

Yes it has aired on the FX channel twice that I know of and is almost finished another run.

It's called The Nominee and not the Australian title "We Can Be Heroes".

Check out: www.fxuk.com for information about the show.

We get it here in N-Ireland on RTE at about 3am, I think it is hilarious.
I can't see anyone taking it seriously as a documentary especially in England (the country that gave the world The Office - the first of it's kind)

I stay awake with insomnia to watch - I love the twins, their story is my favourite!!

reply

uk people would no that it isnt areal doc , we had the office and we knew , id say it is americans who would probably get fooled

Aparently it was on Fiver but I never saw it advertise. I bought it in HMV today though :)

Just watched the whole series tonight on See Saw, surprised BBC 3 haven't bought it. I absolutely loved every minute, not as laugh out loud as summer heights high but just as good in a brilliantly subtle way, the fact I actually cared about the characters is testament to Chris Lilley who has become one of my favourite actors.

I dont like to speak for my whole nation but I can safely say no intelligent English person would believe this is actually real despite the sublime performance of lilley and the other actors.

Will spread the word, most people that I know here in Manchester have only seen SHH, I'm sure they would love this If they gave it time for the characters to grow on them.
