Finally, Hines' 'WOTW' Explained And Redeemed ...

According to the Mukilteo Beacon News, the Hines version of WotW was actually the rough cut of the film.

After the original modern-day version was scrapped in 2001 in the wake of 9/11, Hines and crew put together the Victorian version with a low budget and a relatively unknown cast (a few actors from other Hines films were onboard as well). Production wrapped a few weeks before the Spielberg-Cruise-Paramount version went into production.

Distributors were very interested in Hines' product. In fact, the one Hines went with wanted to know if Hines' Pendragon Pictures could shorten the post-production period. And they also wanted to see the rough cut. Hines obliged - and the distributor promptly boxed up the rough cut and distributed that without waiting for the final product.

Needless to say, poor Tim got something of a shafting from both that distributor, and from disgruntled fans, whose comments littered this board for many months afterwards.

That said, it did allow Tim to get his foot in Hollywood's door. 'War of the Worlds: The True Story', the new 'reshoot', if you will, is apparently on tap for possible future broadcast on The History Channel in the US.

Looks like Hines will finally get the respect he should have gotten a decade ago.

God, what a lame excuse.
Everybody is to blame but Timbo.......
People seemed obssesed by the Special effects in the movie, as if they were the only things wrong with it. Yes, the effects are truly terrible, as bad as anything I have seen since the days of Ed Wood, but the writing ,editing, and acting are just as freaking bad. Even if the effects were good, is would only lift it from being a terrible movie to being a very bad one.

Sure thing, Timbo - but you seem to have forgotten all those interviews and shilling on these pages insisting that the three-hour version was the finished version and that anyone who said it wasn't was a lying Scientology shill from DreamWorks running scared of how superb the Pendragon version was.

You're quite right, I'm being too cynical. After all, now, for the first time, they are bringing to us the full story of what happened on that fateful day. They are bringing us all the evidence, based only on the secret testimony, of the miserable souls, who survived this terrifying ordeal. The incidents, the places. My friend, they cannot keep this a secret any longer. Let us punish the guilty. Let us reward the innocent. My friend, can your heart stand the shocking facts of Timbo Hines' H.G. Wells The War of the Worlds?

We are all interested in Hines' future for that is where he is going to spend the rest of his life!

And it's all based on SWORN TESTIMONY!

I would actually buy this argument if it hadn't taken years after the fact to come out.

The war is not meant to be won... it is meant to be continuous.

"That said, it did allow Tim to get his foot in Hollywood's door."

That's a pretty generous assertion. Isn't he still running the meat-slicer at the Northgate Arby's?

reply

Even if that were true, the recut version was sh!t as well.
