Netflix is ruining this film's reputation

I wish they would take the crap version off of Instant Stream, or at least put the long version up as an alternative.
I tell all my friends that Red Cliff is perhaps the best epic since Return of the King, that John Woo is a master action director and so on, but all they do is pull up the american version on Netflix and go "its not THAT good."

Someone even told me he thought the action in it was kinda bland and certainly not better than stuff in American movies.

In my opinion this movie should go down in history as one of the great epics. But too many people rate it as an average or below average movie because they watch the bummer version on Netflix.

The full version is split into 2 movies that are 1.5-2 hours each IIRC

On the bed, on the floor, on a towel by the door, in the tub, in the car, up against the mini-bar

I have to agree, do not bother with the US version, the Extended movie is great as there is so much more depth added to the characters in this version.

Great movie I thoroughly enjoyed.

the full version is 5 hours long, two dvds at 2.5 hours each. I have never seen the short version and I never want to, what an amazing film.

Netflix has it on disk, look for "Red Cliff: International Version."

Amazon must have it under that title as well.

They did the same to the LotR series. Unless they changed recently, the only version available on Netflix is the short version of the trilogy.

Racist Game = Pool. WHITE ball push COLORED balls back into holes. BLACK ball out = you win.

Not to mention, the Blu-Ray version is so clear and detailed compared to the regular DVD. I bought it. It's beautiful.

I agree with you that Red Cliff is a real work of Art, something I would only say about a few movies by the way. Movies like "The Best Years of Our Lives," "Seven Samurai," "The Seventh Seal," "Up," "Spirited Away," etc.

It even surprised me that it was done by John Woo. It's so much better than any of his other works. It really stands up there.

Does the American version cut out any battle scenes?
