What an amazing movie!

Everything was really great in this movie: The acting, story, characters, suspense, yeah I loved it all and so did my mom which I saw it with. It's so refreshing to see a movie which feels so real and really grabs a hold of you and leaves you speechless at the end of it all.

I do feel sad however that a film like this gets bad critique for the wrong reasons. Had I not seen a very intriguing trailer a few years back I simply would not have known about this gem.

I didn't like the film for its "point" but for the reasons listed above. You mentiond how the film was a wreck and yet your only criticism was about how you were unable to find the "point".

I didn't like 'Reservoir Dogs' for its "point" but for its dialogue and characters.

I didn't like 'The Royal Tenenbaums' for its "point" but for the humour and characters.

I didn't like 'Zodiac' for its "point" but for its suspense and storytelling.

I didn't like 'Collateral' for its "point" but for its action and visuals.

Ofcourse there are other aspects to those movies that I liked (loved) but I guess you get the point mister 'I only like movies which have a point easy enough for me to digest'.

I did not experience what you did, that the movie just consisted of "random scenes that didn't make sense when put together" or that "there was no reality to it". On the contrary, I felt very strongly about it and saw it as extremely real. I do see what you are saying though as I have family members that had pretty much the same feelings as you about 'The Royal Tenenbaums' plus they thought it was boring. All of which I can fully understand, this even though I myself thought the movie was ingenious and hilarious.

I have watched the above mentioned movies except Zodiac several times and no I did not re-watch them for some deeper meaning or a point, I rarely watch movies for their points (yes, it does happen). I'm not like alot of other people, I guess, that have to have a character they can identify with in every movie for them not to loathe the movie (I've seen lots of movies get negative reviews just because the main character wasn't a good human being). Me, I just let the movie roll out before my eyes and try to enjoy it. I've seen plenty of films from around the globe that I did not understand at all (the problem was not in the translation) but ended up loving the films just the same (I imagine this must be totally insane in your world).

Ofcourse you can find deeper meaning and points to these movies as can you in every movie if you look hard enough. Also, different people will see different meanings in different things.

About the point which you cannot find in this movie, I can easily think of a couple:
1, The terrorists are not the ones we think they are.
2, Tragic events in the world can have a profound change in people.

I think you missed the point of my original post. You pinpointed one point and tried to make an entire argument against it.

Yes I pinpointed your point about there not being a point in your reply because you didn't write about anything else that I could reply to.

Your last sentence is unnecessary as I was just replying to what you wrote which was about some search for a point and questioning my appreciation for the movie which I created a thread for.

I agree it was an amazing movie. There are several points. One, sometimes people aren't always what they seem. Two, there can be some very disturbed people out there. Three, not all terrorism is what it seems, perhaps. Four, it's amazing how sneeky and what kind of an agenda someone can hatch. Five, Muslims can be victims too (the movie was made in 2005, a slightly more sensitive time against Muslims/Middle Easteners). Some of the 3 most dangerous jobs are cop, cab driver and night convenience store clerks. Hitchhiking is dangerous and so is picking up hitchhikers. Cab drivers are one hair away from picking up any psycho hitchhiker. It's just a slice of life of a Muslim cab driver after 911 and a sociopath woman looking for a way to vent her sick impulses. It's just a story. People watching were identifying with the Muslim. This is a way to influence people to not hate people (all Muslims) just because of a group they might be in. The audience was viewing everything from the cabbie's point of view, the confusion about this woman and what was she doing and why? This makes way for educating people for acceptance in others. Not lumping everyone in one thing- anti predjudice. The story was freaky, a good edge of your seat mystery and still helped to serve humanity in an entertaining way. It also was a reminder of the sore subject of imprisoning people that are innocent just because of a group they are in. It was educational without coming across that way. It blew my husband and I away.

Completely agree. I had a hard time believing the
part about walking to the atty but after the first set of credits ended and the rest of the movie played at the end my only reaction was "Holy *beep*

Amazing is the word for it.
