So, does this rip off The Shining and The Ring?

I noticed many similarities between The Messengers and The Shining and The Ring. For example, the mom who was killed by Burwell in the intro looks very much like Wendy from The Shining and Samara's mom from The Ring. Ben is perceptive to ghosts, just like Danny from The Shining. Burwell uses an Ax, just like Jack from The Shining - you get the idea. Was this film here just a rip-off of either of these?
