Did anyone catch Stephen Merchant's cameo? I honestly think he would have been perfect for the role of the main character's best friend/trainer. The other guy was funny but Smerchant is even funnier.

I did catch that and it actually took me a minute to realize it was him. I mean, I knew he looked familiar but I blanked on his name at first. 'Spose that means Nick Frost will show up in Ricky Gervais' next project? The Great Sidekick Swap...that has an okay ring to it.

Stephen Merchant is hilarious but I think Dylan Moran was a better choice for playing Gordon

I started watching Black Books on DVD but Moran's drunken loser act got old fast and there wasn't much comedy meat on the bones. I was expecting Bill Bailey to be funny but he was a straight man.

Moran was better in this, more screentime for Merchant would be good but Moran did a good job.
