the ramones

were these guys all brothers? or they are all just related to each other just like the Beach Boys

reply

No, they weren't brothers, just a bunch of friends from Forest Hills in Queens, NY. Doug Colvin, the bass player, liked to call himself "Dee Dee Ramone." He thought of the name Dee Dee after seeing a wrestling magazine photo of Gorgeous George (G.G.) as a kid, and later added Ramone after reading that Paul McCartney had called himself "Paul Ramon" when the Beatles started as the Silver Beatles. Dee Dee met John Cummings and Tommy Erdelyi, and a drummer named Jeffrey Hyman who became the singer Joey (possibly taking his name from the bubblegum song "Quick Joey Small"). When they formed a band, Dee Dee suggested the name Ramones, and in interviews, they would call themselves "Johnny of the Ramones" and so on, which led to each member taking on the pseudonym.
