DVD Anytime This Year?

I've been really interested in seeing this movie for a while now, so hopefully it comes out sometime this year on dvd.

Look for it in August.

Alright thanks for the tip :)

26th August.

And it's going to have extra features, too. Deleted scenes, commentaries, etc.

The full info is on the website, www.popedreams.com. It's going to be on cable & TV, also.

I'm glad this has finally come out on DVD. This is a magnificent indie effort that deserves a large audience.

Do you know what kind of deleted scenes are on the DVD?

reply

I don't know as yet.

My copy is in the mail, though, so I'll find out soon!!

I'll try to remember to come back here and let you know. Give me a few days, though, because I'm in the UK and the post is sloooooow!

Yes, please let me know. I received a promo DVD with just the film, but I'm curious about the bonus features because I absolutely loved this film. Thanks, and enjoy "Pope Dreams" ... once it finally arrives!

The special features consist of:

the trailer
a commentary track with Steve Loh and Patrick Hogan
a montage of outtakes and deleted scenes that lasts approximately 8 minutes

I, too, had a DVD with just the movie, and I feel like I wasted my money paying again for the special features. The outtakes and deleted bits weren't particularly funny or interesting - to me, anyway. Others might feel differently, of course.

I'm a bit biased by the fact that on the commentary, they said there was a ton of footage with David Shatraw and Rex Smith that finished up on the cutting room floor. So where was that in the "special" features??

It was kind of rubbing my nose in it - there's all this great stuff, but you can't see it - all you get is a few minutes of miscellaneous snippets.

Thanks for the summary of the bonus/bogus features!

I have to say that normally I find special features tedious because most of them belonged on the cutting-room floor. It's a trend that has run its course, where every DVD release is a "special edition." Ninety percent of the time, I just want to see the film. I've never been able to listen to commentary all the way through because I find it distracting.

But the fact that I liked "Pope Dreams" so much, combined with the fact that I received a promo copy for free, made me wonder if I should purchase the DVD. Now I'm leaning against it.

I'll do my part by attempting to spread the word about this film, rather than purchasing it for the pointless outtakes.

Thanks again for the response.
