Wonderful movie, though obviously influenced by LOCAL HERO

Not that that is a bad movie to be influenced by or pay homage too. If you haven't seen it and liked OUTSOURCED I highly recommend it.

Oh yes, Local Hero! At the end of "Outsourced", when he has returned to his Seattle apartment, I said to my husband, "Now he takes the shells out of his pocket...." And then, of course, the phone rings. This time it's a cell, not a red phone box.

Nice movie though.

Yes, the filmmakers admit the Local Hero connection (they call it an homage) in their DVD commentary. It's discussed at the very end of the movie.

They also say that this phone call ending was added on as the studio wanted some hope of a happier ending and an ongoing connection between Todd and Asha.

I liked Local Hero a lot but I would say this movie is closer to Michael Keaton's movie Gung-Ho.

He convinces a Japanese car manufacturer to take over an American car assembly plant about to be closed down.

The Japanese supervisors run into culture shock dealing with American employees and their attitudes. They and their families end up adopting many American attitudes, workwise and in their personal lives.

Just saw the movie, and at the last scene, I did the same thing another commenter did, and I cheered when the cellphone chimed out Asha's ringtone - that scene was straight out of Local Hero, and I loved the homage. This was a nice movie, not quite as wacky and tongue in cheek as Local Hero, but enjoyable nevertheless. I'm glad they included that scene; it communicated that awful sense of loss and reverse culture shock when you are suddenly returned back to your home country (say, the way it happens for Peace Corps volunteers) and feel horribly out of place and disconnected. The reminder that all of it really did happen, and that everyone still carries him in their minds, even though he was back in America, was a nice, positive touch. Hmmm. I think I'm gonna dig out my old VCR copy of Local Hero and pop it into my ancient VCR player (yep, still got one). I could use the giggles right about now.
