Nbcs show

Just a quick question, tis the new nbc show based on this? they share very similar plots.

reply

I would say it has to be based on this movie after watching the trailer on NBC's website.

The main characters name in both is Todd. They are selling novelty items in both. There is a person working in the call center named Manmeat in both. I don't think these are just coincidences.

I did notice that the movie was a little more serious then the tv show seems like it will be. The tv show seems like its trying to fit in more with the comedy of Community and The Office.

Yep - both look very alike.. Todd, Manmeet, Asha, Novelty store, Mumbai travel are all common.. I think the movie was filmed in India - but the series is filmed in LA..

reply

The writer John Jeffcoat is credited under both, so seems likely one is based on the other.

reply

Yes, the series is based off the movie.

I really like the TV show and I am trying to find a way to order this movie.

I haven't seen it yet but I really want to.. There should be more shows in the United States to show Americans whta other countries are like and what people in other countries are like. And because of the show, I am trying to find frieds from India. I now want to learn more about the culture and the people of the country..

I saw it on Netflix for Watching Instantly. If you have the ability to stream Netflix, you can play it on your computer or a Netflix device.

the only person that isnt the same from the movie to the show is Gupta.

there is no gupta in the movie.

other than that, it follows a similar path, although TV shows need to add things for longevity of course.

They seemed similar, but it was confusing to me, because they used a completely different cast. They probably just found people who could provide the same service cheaper. I hear that's a trend. ;)

Also, I thought Madhuri was a lot prettier than Asha in the movie, but Asha was prettier than Madhuri on the TV show. I'm trying to think if there is any significance to that.

I'm sure the writer tweaked a few things to suit the much longer running time of the TV show.

I personally found Gupta irritating in the TV show...and yet most storylines involved him!

I really enjoyed the TV show (found it funnier then the parallel season of The Office to be honest) & was very saddened when NBC didn't renew it for a second season. The Todd/Asha romance could've had LOTS of potential and I can only imagine the potential the movie elements (them sleeping together, hidden romance, etc) being implemented in the show...what COULD'VE been eh?

Coming in late here but yes. Unfortunately NBC cancelled it after 1 season. Much more light hearted and whacky than the movie. Really good fun.
