What makes this special?
What kind of critical reaction did this film get in Egypt and what makes it special to Egyptian audiences?
shareWhat kind of critical reaction did this film get in Egypt and what makes it special to Egyptian audiences?
shareIt got a very positive reaction, probably the best in years.
It was special because it was the most expensive Egyptian film of all-time (cost 22m LE), based on a very popular and controversial novel, and that had a giant cast.
What made the novel controversial? I assume it wasn't the first one to put a spotlight on corruption and to discuss homosexuality?
shareIt wasn't the first novel to put the spotlight in corruption and homosexuality. But I guess it was the first Egyptian novel to focus exclusively on the 3 taboos in the Egyptian literature (Sex, Politics, and Religion)
shareThanks. Sounds like it has opened the floodgates for other directors interested in tackling the same three themes you mentioned.
shareActually the movie just got over hyped because it was a debut of a new production studio "Good News", and it had many big stars and all, and the novel itself is nothing special, tons of other novels like that and even more were released and made into films long before that, it was a media hype thanks to the brilliant Emad Adib and his crew from Good News.
shareThat's sounds plausible but can you give me a couple of example of other Egyptian movies similar to and better than this one?
