Good clean fun for the whole damn family. Sorta...

First and foremost, this is a solid offbeat comedy with a unique storyline. I see a lot of references to Falling Down, but who really cares? Falling Down is well ... ok, but certainly nothing to use as leverage to put this down.

This film gets into an issue that's rarely spoken of. Though it seemed the main character was less worried about his hearing and just needed peace -- things are turned up to notch 11 nowadays -- everywhere you go you have to shout to hear a friend - and there will be consequences. Also, people are really selfish about the noise they put out. 3AM some people might be trying to sleep. I would kind of like seeing their cars smashed to bits and pieces.

Tim Robbins brilliant as usual, and good acting all the way around. I didn't think Hurt as mayor was bad; but sort of odd. Never thought bad acting. I say sorta in the title because the language in some scenes isn't for the Sunday's best kind of folk. But who cares about that either - Margarita Levieva is smokin'.

If you're loud and obnoxious person, chances are you'll write a review calling this a waste of time or a piece of crap... the reason for just an average rating?

Nothing beats Falling Down as far as the get back at the annoyances of everyday life. I loved that movie and I really liked this one. Family oriented went out the window at the beginning of the movie. Enough kids vandalize things already; they don't need any further influences. And the whole naked in be examining vaginas, yes I loved that scene. That is NOT family oriented. They need that more in movies. lol

Agree, "Falling Down" was Great (with a capital "G") while this movie was pretty good (I rated it a 7 which isn't hay, IMO).

But forget about language, this movie had plenty of adult situations (sex between man and wife, references to impotence galore, then sex between man and pretty young Russian woman, then a 3-some where one woman bemoaned the way her vagina looked (if they showed it - then it would've been X-rated)).

I don't think there's anything WRONG with the adult situations, and found most of them quite refreshing with both Tim Robbins' wife character and the young Russian woman quite attractive, BUT no way would I consider this a "family movie".

And agree with the others that promoting vandalism also isn't good fodder for the impressionable young uns.

Falling down had a rocket launcher...that tops it for most people. But noise was better more realistic and it had better philosophic conversation, like the part about angel or beast (the vagina scene). Id recommend it only to people who are passionate about their communities.

This is the first film to deal with a subject rarely spoken of: noise pollution.
it's a very real problem in our society and with the emphasis on 'what is tolerated' this film touched a real nerve for me.
as someone who works at home, every single day i have to deal with the assault of car alarms.
it's not a joke.
this movie is funny, but very poignant.
i wish it had wider distribution so it could have the chance of making this issue more mainstream.
instead, few complain, few do anything.
many of us would like to take a hammer to pointless car alarms.
the stupidity of them is almost unbelievable.
when was the last time you heard a car alarm and thought 'oh, no, someone's stealing a car'?
kudos to the makers of this little gem.

I agree. I wish this issue were discussed more in the media. I especially liked the leaf blower part. I often think about the waste that those things produce (gas, etc.), the pollution, and the noise pollution. I felt TR's character took that point to an extreme, but at least he made it public.

I am not a Frankenstein. I'm a Fronkensteen.
