Did Nigel actually have sex with his mother? Or was it simply Nigel wanting it to seem, to his father, as if that's what they were doing? I've watched it several times now and am still confused by this. I know Nigel considered his mother his own Maraclea, so it's easy to see that Nigel would willingly have sex with her, but it doesn't seem as if she would go along with this and actually have sex with him.

His mother seemed honestly appalled that her husband would suggest it. I feel like we weren't shown enough of her character to know if she would actually have sex with Nigel or not, maybe she was just as delusional as he was. We just don't know.
shareI think it's fairly straightforward. He didn't have sex with her beforehand. She probably wouldn't and he didn't need to. All the photos of her show her asleep and in her nightie. If he was actually having sex with her he could more than likely get a photo where she was 1) awake 2) naked (if only naked and asleep) Nigel orchestrated the whole thing to make his father believe it. If he was actually sleeping with her he could have got the father to catch them in the act. It was all far too circumstantial to be really happening. The whole film is about making something happen in someone else's mind, that's what Nigel did to his father. He didn't need to actually have sex with her, not until she was dead.

No, the photos were definitley of his mother because when Rowe shows them to Alex and asks who the woman is he flashes back to meeting Nigel's parents and it focuses in on Nigel's mother. Plus, I don't think Nigel's dad would have known anything about Susan and would have been totally boggled to get photos of her rather than furious like he was.
Like someone said above- I don't believe Nigel had sex with her while she was alive. When his dad burst in they were fully clothed in bed and she made some comment like "He only comes to me because he can't talk to you" so I thought they were just talking while he was sitting in the bed. She was asleep and clothed in all the photos so it would have been easy for Nigel to take them. He definitley had sex with her after she was dead though.

how'd you know he had sex with her when he was dead? to me it didnt seem like there was alot of time to actually do that becuase he was getting rid of the evidence and was talking to alex.....so where would alex have been if he was sleeping with his dead mother? im so confused by it tbh!

When Nigel comes back to speak with Alex after "disposing of the bodies", he says something to suggest that they would soon get their power in 9 months (after he retrieves the skull), lemme find it.
In the hall, he says "I have my Maraclea".
Then at the fire, when they burn the organs, he says "As long as they don't find my mother for 9 months, it doesn't matter." Then Alex responds, "you didn't.." and Nigel confirms "What do you think we're here for."

OK, Nigel didn't have sex with his mother. As was mentioned before, the pictures (which are clearly of the mother) were all taken whilst she was asleep. Nigel sent the pics to "the club" to discredit his father whom he hated. When Nigel's dather found him in bed with his mother she was in a nightie and Nigel was in a vest and jogging bottoms. Nigel's mother says that Nigel had no one else to talk to which suggests that the pair of them were side by side in bed because she was consoling or offering support in some way, albeit that Nigel had set up the scenario knowing what his father's reaction would be.
The body in the morgue was that of Susan Mueller whose body Nigel tried to encourage Alex to have sex with. Although we are never fully informed, the plot suggests that he didn't defile her remains.
Interest discusion. It was just shown on an American cable station and they must have cut a lot of that scene involving the possible sex with the mother. We did not get the scene of where a photo of the mother was given to her husband when he was at the club.

shareI do not think that alex is the villain from the start. alex was never able to influence nigel. they both don't like each other, ignoring each other from the start. until alex is asking his religion (?) teacher for the crimes commited in the name of the catholic church. he mentiones the templars. that's the point where nigel realises that alex is a familiar soul and begins to play (or torture) with him. nigel is the psycho, influencing the mind of alex, until alex truly believes in the power of nigel even when he is dead. in prison alex turns into nigel. it is unclear to me if alex really had sex with his girl friends dead body (I suppose so, b/caus at the end of the movie - after 9 month - her skull is missing). but the clearly transforms into nigel, playing the same game as nigel played with him - "Do you like history?"

And it's actually the twist. The story we watched was fake and all made up by Alex. Poor Nigel, he was not bad at all.
