Better than Shaun of the Dead

Everyone talks of Shaun of the Dead. And while it's great, I think Hot Fuzz is an all around better movie. Anyone share my opinion?

I agree with you. Hot Fuzz has good callback jokes ("Fascist!" "Hag!"), a clever plot twist, tighter storytelling, and an overall more slick, sharp feel to it.

(Plus I like that Danny hasn't unpacked his moving boxes after all this time. Neither have I.)

But it hasn't got zombies. :(

I agree with you too! I think it's much better. I feel like Shaun of the Dead was their warm-up into the cinematic world (post-Spaced) and it was a fantastic start. But I do think they got better with Hot Fuzz. Shaun of the Dead had a fairly simple (and very effective) plot but I think Hot Fuzz got a bit more experimental - what made me appreciate its brilliance when I first saw it was the really complicated murder plot Nicholas thinks up that accuses Skinner, when they were actually killing people for reasons like having 'a horrible laugh'! If they continue on this roll I have high hopes for The World's End (though I'm not sure it will ever top Hot Fuzz in my head).

Plus, Simon Pegg is a lot more fanciable in it. I have harboured a secret crush on him ever since I saw this one...

I prefer Hot Fuzz to Shaun Of The Dead.

I agree. Love them both, but I find Hot Fuzz way funnier, enjoyable, and better written. Maybe it's because I love mysteries so much.

Hot Fuzz has more of plot but Shaun is way funnier.

I agree, because there is no romantic element. Just comedy and action :)

Hot Fuzz is funnier, has a better plot and is action packed. To me it's the better movie and in my top 10 favourites. Shaun is still fantastic but just doesn't hit the same marks. Shaun is much more emotionally charged though.

I've never met anyone in real life that agrees with me when I say that this is the better film. Everyone seems completely swayed by Shaun of the Dead having zombies in. But this is definitely a more well-rounded, entertaining and funny film. Love it.

I don't think Shaun of the dead was better because it had Zombies in it. I could care less about the zombies. I prefer Shaun of the Dead because I found it to be light years funnier than Hot Fuzz.

Yes Hot Fuzz is better. It's got Timothy Dalton.

I thinks the weakest of the three myself. Not to say I dislike it. Far from it. But to me it's the least cohesive on a plot level and it's the least emotionally gratifying. It's still a really fun time though.

I love Shaun of the Dead but I've always preferred Hot Fuzz.

I mean, theoretically I should like Shaun more because I'm a big fan of the horror genre so I got all the inside jokes about horror movies whereas I'm not familiar AT ALL with the action/buddy cop genre, so any inside jokes about action movies I probably missed (besides the obvious cliches, like shooting a gun while jumping and the various over the top stuff mentioned, and then later done, in the film), but I just found Hot Fuzz to be a funnier, tighter, more interesting film than Shaun.

For me, ranking the Cornetto trilogy goes like this: Hot Fuzz, The World's End, Shaun of the Dead. Even though they're all so fantastic it's really hard to rank them.
