Casually racist ?

Would you agree that this film was casually racist in its portrayal of the Hispanic character as being an idiot and easily duped?

reply

My god. There's always one in the bunch that wants to take up the racist card. There is the muslim guy that comes off as a hard worker and intelligent. So what, did they just have something against hispanics? Do you sit and watch movies thinking "where can I find something racist?"...

reply

Wow, calm down there, fella. The person was just asking for opinions. You're one of those "CONservatives", I would bet the farm.

reply

It is a bit creepy to pull a racial thing out of it just because that actor was lucky enough to get the part. Could have been anyone.

reply

Uhh, that's not racist, that's typical Costco.

And the middle eastern guy was portrayed as a good family man that was obviously a good employee and the like. Funny how you left that part out....

Just to point out, it's not the conservatives that play the race card constantly. It's the liberal Obama supporters who call EVERYONE a racist that doesn't support Obama. So if your going to use labels, use the correct one.

I was talking about you. Thanks for making my point.

Lol. Danimal DID just make your point. Geez.
And to the original poster, Im latina and I didnt get offended.
I dont think that character was written for a hispanic, i think a hispanic just happened to nail the audition.
So call your tits, Danimal.

reply

Agreed. I often wonder that myself. It's like Yoda says...

Luke: "What's in there?"
Yoda: "Only what you take with you."

reply

The character wasn't written as a Hispanic, I'm sure. The "Puerto Rican/Mexican" line was likely improvised with the actor's approval. "Jorge" isn't a representative of Latinos. I know I don't have any connection to him; I didn't reach out to the screen and chant, "One of us!"

"Oh, my God. Bear is driving! How can that be?!"

I think you assuming things are racists says a lot more about you than the movie.
