IMDb's title is in error.

I'm watching it on LMN On Demand. The on-screen title is "Deadly Encounter", NOT "A Deadly Encounter". This is the sort of thing that can throw off people trying to track it down.

I agree this is an often-dumb movie though it could have taken the premise and done much better with it. Anyone who has had to be on highways a lot knows how quickly a situation can escalate, anything from passing someone who doesn't like to be passed to~well~just about anything. My sister was forced off the road by a semi-truck for a reason she will never know. I had one come at me head-on, but I managed to avoid it without going in the ditch as she had to.

It can be very scary out there, even if a person is the safest driver ever, trying to take every precaution.
