One problem with this movie

Laura Prepon

This movie might have been OK, except for Laura Prepon. She is the worst actress ever. She is literally the exact same monotonous and boring character in every movie she is in. She has two faces: bored dog and smiling bored dog. And her voice is so droning and boring that it makes you want to fall asleep. You could literally transplant any character from any one of her movies or shows into another and you wouldn't notice any difference. I know I'm not the first to say it, but please filmmakers, stop casting her. It must be her scientology connections getting her the roles, because is certainly isn't her "acting skills".

Maybe you are right, but in this case I found it suitable and I did not think at any point about her character from that 70s show. I liked her performance

Were we watching the same movie? :P

reply

Probably.

One of the things that bothered me about her performance is that it's all wrong. There's plenty of video of Karla Homolka being questioned by the police as well as her everyday actions being filmed by Benardo. Prepon had a lot of source material available to get the character right and didn't do so. Maybe that's the director's fault but you'd think she would have some creative leeway. The portrayal didn't pass off as Karla IMO.

The same can be said for Collins as Benardo.

I don't have time to jaw with anyone who won't identify himself!

reply

I never saw any video from the original people, so... I can't tell. I can talk about the performance, and IMO it works.

reply

lol i haven't seen the movie but i watched the trailer in it in there's a part where she says "she's not breathing" and hearing it in that monotonous tone of hers made me laugh

reply

That's your problem with this film?!?!

My problem with this film is that it made Karla out to be an innocent bystander and she had nothing to do with the deaths of those teenage girls, except her sister of course, when in actuality the videotapes had been found and she was VERY MUCH involved with those crimes!!!!!

And what pisses me off is no one is complaining about it!! Seriously, am I the only one who is bothered by this!!!!

reply

I did notice how this makes Karla Homolka look like another victim who for some reason kept going back to paul. now i wonder if their is a film out from bernardo's pov

Rob Zombie is one of the greatest directors today

Actually, the film makes it clear that neither one was innocent at all. The fact that Karla didn't bother to try and stop any of the murders, just stood by instead and let that s*** happen, and never reported it showed, to me, just how complicit she was in those horrible crimes, and it was sickening to watch. It just showed how completely fckd-up this couple were.. I liked the fact that the film could have been way more exploitative, but thankfully it wasn't. Good film with some good acting too (by both leads) but still disturbing as hell to watch, anyway.

I disagree. I think Laura is hilarious in "That Seventies Show".
